St. John’S Bread
- 3 eggs beaten
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 7/8 cups bread flour
- 5 1/4 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon dry active yeast instant
- 1 egg yolk beaten for basting
- 1 handful nuts your choice
- cane sugar or brown sugar
- In a stand mixer, add the 3 whole eggs, pinch of salt, and the bread flour, butter, sugar, and yeast. Connect the bread attachment and let it start kneading the dough until elastic and smooth.
- Pour the dough out onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Roughly form it into a large oval shape.
- Baste the top and sides with the beaten egg yolk. Sprinkle the handful of nuts and a generous amount of sugar on top (optional). Let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Bake the dough for 20 minutes or until it sounds hollow when tapped on top.
