Delishious Batter Shallot Onion Rings
- 3/4 cup of rising flower.
- 1/2 cup of Grissini Crumbs / Bread crumbs / Panko / other kind
- 4-5 large shallot onions or 1-2 red/white/other type of large onion cut into about 3/4 cm rings or whatever size you like them.
- 2 large / XL eggs or 3 Medium eggs
- 1/4 cup of cannola oil
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 a lemon
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic and chilli italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp of ground black peper
- Canola oil for frying - depends on the size of your pan,
- 3/4 cup of milk
- Combine Flower and Bread crumbs together in a bowl.
- Make a hole in the center and pore the 3/4cup of milk and the eggs. start mixing the milk and eggs in the center first and then combine with flower to get a nice batter.
- Add the lemon juice and the Canola oil and mix. The mixture should start getting fluffy,
- Add in the rest of the water or milk to make the batter more runny, as needed, to taste.
- Add in the Spices and mix in well with a fork (to get little air bubbles into the batter). The spices I suggested make a mildly salty batter, and are perfect for my taste but don't be shy to perfect the spicing to your taste. I don't like serving these with any other sauce, if you are, consider changing the seasoning to suit your sauce. nf you are not allowed to have salt for medical reasons you can use only the rest of the seasoning and it should be tasty as well - I tried this once before. Consider frying fresh parsley leaves or other kinds of fresh herbs washed and dried very well alongside the onions, this will give you more flavor. neware of adding too much pepper as this is a common mistake and will ruin your batter.
- Prepare in a deep frying pan about 3cm of oil (1.5 - 2 inches) and heat. Drop in a small bit of batter, you will know when the oil is hot enough when lots of bubbles start rising from under it.
- Mix in the Onions with the batter in a shallow plate and make sure they are covered from all sides. Be generous with the batter.
- When the oil is hot enough drop the onions with the batter into the oil and fry until golden brown on both sides or until the onions are soft.
- Take the onions out and lay them on a plate with paper towels. I like to put a wooden sushi rolling mat in between the papers. Put some more cold oil into the pan, mix the batter and repeat.
- Leave onions to cool for about 5 min and let the oil sink down, serve no longer than 20min after frying for the best results. Enjoy!
