Venezuelan Arepas
- 1 bag Harina P.A.N.
- 4 cups milk
- 1 stick melted butter
- 1/2 cup queso cotija shredded, or queso fresco
- 1 pinch salt
- Preaheat oven to 350F
- Put the harina and cheese in a bowl and add all of the butter and most of the milk. Mix using your hands until a smooth masa is made. Add the rest of the milk and additional water if needed for consistency. It should be smooth of clumps, and somewhat sticky.
- Wet your hands and form discs out of the dough.
- Heat a griddle over medium-high heat and spray with cooking spray. Toast each side of the arepas until golden. About 3-4 minutes each side. (The flatter you are able to get the arepa, the more even the coloring.)
- After this stage, you can freeze any arepas you aren't going to eat immediately (let them cool first though).nut arepas you are going to eat in the oven (or toaster oven) directly on the rack. Cook for about 12 minutes on each side.
