Crunchy Panko Mac & Cheese

  1. Melt 1/4 cup butter in large saucepan over medium heat. Add flour; cook, whisking constantly for 1 minute. Whisk in milk, water and dijon mustard. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook until just slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. Stir in salt, pepper and cayenne. Remove from heat.
  2. Combine pasta and 11/2 cups cheddar cheese in 9" x 13" casserole dish. Pour sauce over pasta. Do not stir.
  3. Set the Smart Oven+ Attachment base pan with heating element and Steamer Water Basin Pan on the oven rack. Fill Water Basin Pan with 4 cups of water and place Perforated Steamer Tray in place. Cover pasta with foil and place on Perforated Steamer Tray. Cover with Lid.
  4. On STEAM mode, steam pasta for about one hour, until it is tender. Remove foil and sprinkle with remaining cheddar cheese. Return to Steamer until cheese melts, about 1 minute.
  5. Melt remaining butter in large skillet. Add garlic and panko. Saute until golden. Gently toss in parsley and parmesan cheese. Set aside. This can be made while pasta is in Steamer.
  6. Top pasta with toasted panko and serve immediately.
