Sweet And Pungent Spareribs
- 2 lb. spareribs, cut in pieces
- 1/4 c. vegetable oil
- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
- 1 c. pineapple juice
- 3/4 c. cider vinegar
- 1/2 c. catsup
- 1 1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 medium clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 3/4 c. water
- Brown spareribs in oil and set aside.
- Pour off all but 2 tablespoons drippings.
- Add onion and green pepper and saute until tender.
- Add remaining ingredients except cornstarch and water to onion and green pepper.
- Heat until bubbly.
- Mix cornstarch and water together and add to sauce; cook 5 minutes.
- Add ribs and simmer for 1 hour or until tender.
- Makes 4 to 6 servings.
