Cherry And Chocolate Heart-Shaped Scones
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter chilled, diced
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 pound dark chocolate coarsely chopped
- 3 ounces dried cherries coarsely chopped
- 1 Orange zested
- 2/3 cup cornstarch
- Sift flour, baking powder and baking soda with a pinch of salt. Add sugar. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add vanilla extract and buttermilk. Add chocolate and cherries then bring together to form a dough with your hands. It should be quite dry.
- Preheat oven to 400u0b0F. Roll out dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of 2/3 inch. Using a 3 1/2 inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 8 hearts. Transfer to a baking sheet and bake for about 15 mins until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack, then serve.
