Grandma'S Classic Ginger Snaps
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 cup blanched almonds chopped, optional
- Sift, then measure flour.
- Add salt, baking soda and spices.
- Sift twice more.
- Cream butter until light and fluffy.
- Gradually blend in sugar.
- Beat egg and add to molasses.
- Add in flour mixture and blanched almonds (if using).
- Turn dough onto floured surface and knead dough into 3 rolls, 2 inches in diameter.
- Wrap each roll in wax paper and chill overnight in refridgerator.
- Cut into slices and bake for 8 - 10 minutes at 350 F on a greased or non-stick cookie sheet.
