Lovely Linzer Tarts

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla extract together until well blended. Gradually blend in flour to make a stiff dough. Mix in chopped walnuts
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  3. On a floured, flat surface roll out dough - a little less than 1/4" thick.nsing two different size cookie cutters of the shape, we used heart shapes - cut out shapes using your larger cookie cutter.
  4. Take half of the hearts (or whatever shape you are using) and cut out a smaller shape from the middle. Using a knife or spoon lift out the centers and bake as is (for extra sugar cookies) or discard. Place all shapes on a lightly greased cookie sheet
  5. Bake cookies for 10 - 12 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.nhen cool - spread 1/2 teaspoon of jam or preserves on each large, solid shape
  6. Top each of these with the same shape with the center cut out so the preserves show in the cutout. Spread generously with confectioners sugar and serve
