Bavarian Meatballs And Pears
- 1 (29 oz.) can pear halves
- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 1/4 c. fine bread crumbs
- 1/3 c. minced onion
- 3 Tbsp. minced parsley
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
- 2 Tbsp. oil
- 1/4 c. cider vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. pickling spice
- 1 tsp. whole cloves
- 1/3 c. dried apricots (optional)
- Drain pears, reserving syrup.
- Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, parsley, egg, milk, salt, pepper and allspice.
- Mix well and shape into 1 1/2-inch balls.
- Brown meat balls slowly in oil.
- Add reserved pear syrup, vinegar, brown sugar, pickling spice, cloves and dried apricots (if you have them).
- Cover and simmer 15 minutes.
- Add pear halves and simmer 15 minutes longer. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
