Mother'S Southern Fruitcake

  1. With electric mixer, beat the sugar and margarine.
  2. Add eggs, buttermilk and remaining ingredients.
  3. Grease several pans.
  4. (I put mixture in 1-pound Crisco cans; makes a beautiful gift wrapped in Saran Wrap and tied with ribbon.)
  5. Bake cake at 275u0b0 for 20 to 30 minutes if small and 60 to 90 minutes if large pans.
  6. Check with cake tester.
