Sweet Meatballs
- 2 pounds hamburger lean
- 1 pound ground pork
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 cups bread crumbs unseasoned
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 pound light brown sugar
- 12 ounces Heinz Chili Sauce
- 12 ounces beer lager
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Start with the sauce. Combine brown sugar, chili sauce and beer (mixture will foam when you add the beer).
- Mix well and set aside.
- Combine meat, eggs, milk, bread crumbs, mustard and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl.
- Mix until all ingredients are evenly distributed. I've found it is easiest to use your hands for this.
- Place flour in a small bowl.
- Form meat into ~1 1/4" balls.
- Roll each ball in the flour and shake off any excess.
- Place meatballs in two un-greased 9" x 13" baking pans.
- Pour sauce evenly over all of the meatballs.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 25 - 30 minutes.
- Turn each meatball over and bake another 25 - 30 min. or until meat is fully cooked.
- Sauce will thicken as it cools.
