Grand Marnier French Toast
- 8 eggs
- 4 egg whites
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons grand marnier
- 2 oranges
- 2 loaves french bread sweet
- nutmeg
- powdered sugar
- In a large mixing bowl whisk together the eggs, egg whites, sugar and salt. Add the milk, Grand Marnier and orange zest. Whisk again.
- Slice the bread into 1 inch slices and dip in the mixture until the bread is saturated, approximately 1 minute. Arrange on a baking sheet and set aside for 1 hour. If time permits, prepare the night before and refrigerate overnight.
- In a large, lightly oiled skillet or griddle, slowly brown both sides of the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove to a clean cookie sheet and sprinkle lightly with nutmeg.
- When all the slices are browned, place in a 425 degree F oven and bake for 20 minutes.
- Arrange on a warm platter and sprinkle generously with powdered sugar and nutmeg.
- Serve immediately with pure maple syrup.
