Tamale Beef Pie
- 2 lb. ground beef
- 1 large green pepper (strips)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 1 or 2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 c. sliced ripe olives
- 1 1/4 c. cornmeal
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp. oil
- Brown beef, pepper and onion.
- Drain.
- Add tomatoes, sauce, chili powder, sugar, salt and garlic.
- Cook on low for 30 minutes, stir occasionally.
- Stir in cheese and olives and put in a round 2-1/2 quart casserole dish.
- Sift together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- Add milk, egg and shortening.
- Pour over hot meat mixture.
- Bake in preheated oven 15 to 20 minutes until top is golden brown.
- Bake at 425 u0b0. Serves 6.
