German Chocolate Pie
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 2 (12 oz.) cans evaporated milk
- 1 (4 oz.) bar sweet cooking chocolate, cut up
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 2 beaten egg yolks
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 (9-inch) pie crust
- 1 beaten egg
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. margarine
- 1 (3 1/2 oz.) can flaked coconut
- 1/2 c. chopped pecans
- In medium saucepan, combine 1/3 cup sugar and cornstarch. Measure 3/4 cup evaporated milk and set aside.
- Stir the remaining evaporated milk, the chocolate and 1 tablespoon margarine or butter into sugar mixture.
- Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; cook and stir 2 minutes more.
- Gradually stir about 1 cup of hot mixture into egg yolks; return mixture to saucepan and bring to gentle boil.
- Cook and stir 2 minutes.
- Stir in vanilla. Turn hot filling into baked pie crust.
