Friday Night Burger Night, Vegan-Style
- 2 cups tvp
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 cup quick rolled oats
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 teaspoon mushroom flavouring
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cloves garlic diced finely
- 2 tablespoons green onion finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh coriander finely chopped
- 1/2 cup ground almond powder
- 1 tablespoon corn flour
- salt to taste and optional
- Mix water with TVP and soy sauce. Give a quick stir and let sit for 20 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix rolled oats with hot water, let sit for 5 minutes. Move into TVP bowl. Set aside.
- Add mushroom flavouring, black pepper, garlic, onion, coriander, ground almond powder, and corn flour (also salt if using) to the TVP mix. Using your hand, mix very well and bring to a ball.
- Taking a handful at a time, roll into a large ball and form into a burger patty.
- Heat up a large frying pan and add enough oil for frying. Allow to come to a smoking heat. Gently add the burgers. Fry on each side until browned.
- Serve with oven roasted potatoes and large green salad.
