Orange Slice Christmas Cake

  1. Sift together flour and salt; set aside.
  2. Combine candy, dates, nuts and coconut with 1/2 cup of flour mixture; set aside. Cream together the butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time, beating well each time.
  3. Combine the buttermilk and soda.
  4. Add alternately with the flour mixture to butter and eggs.
  5. Mix well and add fruit mixture.
  6. Pour into a well-greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
  7. Bake at 300u0b0 for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven while cake is still hot.
  9. Pour a combination of 2 cups powdered sugar and 1 cup orange juice (canned not frozen) over cake.
  10. Let cool, then refrigerate overnight before removing from pan.
