Apple Sharlotka-Apple Cake
- 3 green apples
- 1 cup flour
- 1/3 cup melted butter cooled
- 4 eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/2 walnuts crushed, optional but awesome
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Peel and slice your apples into thin slices.
- Lets make our crumble first, mix brown sugar, flour, and crushed walnuts. Add your melted butter and mix. Walla that's done!
- Lets get started with the Sharlotka! Add your egg whites to your mixing bowl, saving your egg yolks for later. Whisk on medium high speed, gradually adding sugar. Mix until egg whites are stiff.
- Add your egg yolks and butter and mix until fully incorporated.
- In a bowl mix your flour, salt, and baking powder together. Add your flour mixture to your bowl, and with a spatula mix slowly until fully incorporated. Make sure not to over mix so the mixture doesn't fall.
- Butter your 9" springform pan and add half your sharlotka mix. Spread it out evenly and top with all of your sliced apples.
- Add the last part of your Sharlotka mix to your pan, and evenly spread your mix over your apples. Its okay if you can see some of your apples on top, it'll make it that much more luscious!
- Top with your crumble mixture and pop it in the oven for 20-30 minutes, or until a toothpick is inserted and comes out clean.
