Homemade Onion Sambaar ( Without Powder )
- 1/4 cup pigeon pea
- onions sliced 1/2 cup divided
- 1 black gram
- 1 chick-pea
- 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 3 fenugreek seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seed
- 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
- red chilies according to taste
- green chilies as per taste
- 2 coconut flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
- 1/2 teaspoon oil
- drum
- tamarind pulp according to taste
- salt according to taste
- 1 jaggery
- Rinse and wash thoor dal , add in few sliced onions along with enough water and cook .
- Now dry roast all other ingredients taken to make paste.now take a blending jar, add in the tampering along with cooked dal and blend into a smooth paste , add water (a little ) if needed
- Now in a pan add oil along with ghee , add tampering , when sputters add onions and drumsticks . Cook until onions turn light brown .now add in the prepared paste , tamarind pulp along with 2 cups of water .nring to boil in medium flame, add in salt, jaggery and boil for 10 to 15 minutes until it froths .
- Switch off stove and serve with hot rice, dosa or idli
