French Onion Soup

  1. Peel and slice onions.
  2. In a skillet, saute onions in butter over low heat until soft and slightly brown.
  3. Sprinkle with flour. Add water, stirring.
  4. Crumble bouillon cubes and add to pan.
  5. Add bouquet garni, salt and pepper.
  6. Bring to a boil.
  7. Cover and cook for about 20 minutes.
  8. Add white wine to soup.
  9. Transfer soup to individual ovenproof large bowl.
  10. Place sliced bread on top. Sprinkle generously with grated cheese.
  11. Add bread and cheese when reheating.
  12. Ten minutes boiling time, 50 minutes total.
