Chocolate Chip Blonde Brownies
- 1 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/8 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1/3 c. butter or other shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 slightly beaten egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Measure flour; add baking powder, soda and salt; sift again. Add chopped nuts; mix well and set aside.
- Melt butter or other shortening in saucepan; remove from heat.
- Add brown sugar and mix well.
- (If vegetable shortening is used, add 1 tablespoon hot water; cool.)
- Add slightly beaten egg and vanilla.
- Then add flour mixture, a small amount at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Spread in greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
- Sprinkle 1/2 package Baker's semi-sweet chocolate chips over top.
- Bake in moderate oven (350u0b0) for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Do not overbake. Cool in pan and then cut into bars.
