Country Store Apple Butter

  1. Cut the apples into eight pieces, without peeling or coring them, cut out damaged parts.
  2. Put them in a large pot, add the vinegar and water, cover; bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cook until apples are soft, about 20-30 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. Ladle apple mixture in a foodmill under a large bowl to catch the apple pulp.
  4. Add apple pulp to slow cooker, add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  5. Cook on HIGH, UNCOVERED for 5-6 hours, stirring every 30 minutes or so.
  6. Can pints according to manufacturer's directions or freeze in containers.
