Vanilla Bean Buttercream
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla paste or extract or 1 vanilla bean
- In a stand mixer, whisk together the butter and the shortening, scraping down the sides as needed, until smooth and blended. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp milk, whisk until smooth. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp vanilla, whisk until smooth. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp milk, whisk until smooth. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp milk, whisk until smooth.
- Be sure to scrape down the sides as needed when mixing!
- *Since I know some of you are going to ask: yes, you can substitute butter for the shortening! The taste and texture won't be exactly the same as mine, and it definitely won't hold up in heat (like, being outside on a hot day) like the shortening version. But it does work :)
