Up And Down Biscuits

  1. Combine first 5 ingredients.
  2. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  3. Add milk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
  4. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly 4 or 5 times.
  5. Roll dough to a 20 x 10-inch rectangle 1/4-inch thick.
  6. Brush on melted butter. Combine 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Sprinkle over dough.
  8. Cut lengthwise into five 2-inch strips.
  9. Stack strips, cinnamon side up, on top of each other.
  10. Cut stacks into 2-inch sections.
  11. Place each stacked section, cut side down, into lightly greased muffin pans.
  12. Bake at 425u0b0 for 12 minutes or until lightly brown.
  13. Yields 10 to 12 biscuits.
