Stutenkerle Bread
- 4 cups flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast
- 5/8 cup sugar
- 7/8 cup milk warm
- 7 1/8 tablespoons margarine
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- salt
- lime zest
- 7 1/8 tablespoons raisins
- 2 egg whites
- Place the flour in a large bowl and make a hole in the center.
- Separately, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm milk. Pour into the hole at the middle of the flour and mix. Sprinkle flour on top, cover and let it rest for 15 minutes in a warm place.
- Add the margarine, egg yolk, vanilla, salt, and lime zest. Mix again. Cover and let it rest for 50 minutes.
- Knead using your hands until the dough is elastic. Add flour, if needed. Place back in the bowl and let it rest for 50 minutes.
- Stretch the dough and cut out the child silhouettes.
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- Place on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rest for 20 minutes.
- Brush with egg white. Add raisins to create the mouth and eyes.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
