Maple Walnut Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 375u0b0.
  2. In a small bowl, combine walnuts, butter, brown sugar and flour.
  3. Mix with a pastry blender and press over the bottom and sides of a buttered 9-inch pie plate.
  4. Prick bottom and bake 10 to 12 minutes.
  5. Set aside to cool.
  6. Sprinkle gelatin over milk in a heavy saucepan.
  7. Add salt.
  8. Beat egg yolks with 1/2 cup of the syrup and the cream.
  9. Stir into the milk and gelatin mixture.
  10. Cook over low heat until mixture thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
  11. Chill, stirring occasionally, until it mounds when dropped from a spoon.
  12. Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding maple syrup that remains.
  13. Beat until very stiff. Fold into gelatin mixture.
  14. Turn into crust and chill until firm.
