Apple Walnut Squares With Meringues
- 3/4 cup oil grape seeds
- 1/2 cup cane sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 700 grams apples grated
- 60 grams walnuts ground
- 50 grams raisins washed with boiling water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons vanilla sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3 egg whites
- 350 grams sugar white granulated
- 1/2 cup walnuts coarsely cut
- Mix the oil with sugar
- Stir in yolks
- Add milk
- Stir in sifted dry ingredients
- Whisk the egg whites to the rigid foam and slowly stir in
- Pour into greased and floured form (28 x 38 cm - 11 x 15 in, or of an approximate size)
- Spread filling carefully on the dough using a spoon
- Place into a pre-heated oven at 170 oC (338 oF) for 30 minutes
- Spread the meringues on the filling, which you prepared by whipped whites, adding sugar, cinnamon and beating on the hot water bath (to make it firm)n0. Sprinkle with chopped nuts
- Put back in the oven and bake for 7-10 minutes until nuts are lightly roasted
