Grandma'S Pinwheel Sugar Cookies
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- green food colouring
- red food colouring
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream together butter, sugar, salt until pale and airy.
- Beat in egg.
- Sift together the measured, unsifted flow, baking powder and baking soda.
- Add to butter sugar mixture along with milk and mix well.
- Divide dough into two equal parts. Colour half with red food colouring and half with green food colouring.
- Roll out each colour dough into 1/4" thick pieces, about the same shape.
- Place the one colour of dough on top of the other and roll into a log.
- Wrap dough in wax paper & chill for at least 1 hour.
- Slice log into thin slices
- Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until delicately brown.
