Scalloped Potatoes With Cheese
- 4 large potatoes, pared
- 1/4 c. water
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 3 Tbsp. flour
- 1 3/4 c. milk
- 2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 c. buttered bread crumbs
- Slice potatoes 1/4-inch thick.
- Place in heavy saucepan with the water and salt.
- Cover.
- Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and cook 15 minutes.
- In heavy skillet, melt butter.
- Stir in flour. Gradually add milk.
- Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Cook until sauce is thickened.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in cheese, salt and garlic powder.
- Fold sauce into potatoes.
- Turn into buttered 1 1/2-quart dish.
- Top with buttered bread crumbs.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 45 minutes or until bubbly and top is slightly browned.
