Charlotte'S Dessert
- 1 1/4 c. crushed vanilla wafers
- 4 tsp. butter
- 1 qt. ice cream
- 1/2 c. butter
- 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 3 well beaten egg yolks
- 1 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 egg whites
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- Mix vanilla wafers and butter, press in 9 x 9-inch pan.
- Save a few crumbs, for topping.
- Refrigerate.
- Soften ice cream, spread over crumb mixture, put in freezer.
- Melt 1/2 cup butter and chocolate over low heat, beat egg yolks and add to chocolate.
- Add sugar and vanilla, mix well, and cool.
- Beat egg whites until stiff.
- When chocolate mixture is cool, fold in egg whites and nuts.
- Put on top of ice cream, sprinkle with reserved crumbs; return to freezer.
- Cut in squares to serve.
