King Cake For Christmas
- candied fruit to taste
- dried fruit to taste
- 2 1/2 tablespoons fresh yeast
- 5/8 cup milk
- 7 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup port wine
- 3 eggs
- 4 cups self rising flour
- 5/8 cup sugar
- fruit jelly
- 1 egg yolks
- powdered sugar
- Dice candied fruit, dust with flour and stir so that cut pieces do not stick to each other.
- Chop dried fruit and set aside.
- Dissolve yeast in warm milk.
- Melt butter and pour into bread machine bowl.
- Add milk with yeast, port wine and whisked eggs.
- Add flour and sugar. Select desired bread program from menu.
- When program ends, stir dough to push out air bubbles and let it rise again.
- Preheat oven to 180u0b0C (approximately 350u0b0F).
- Place dough on a floured surface and mix with fruits.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Make a hole in the middle of the dough with a ramekin or other oven-safe container.
- Brush the surface of the cake with a little fruit jelly so fruit sticks to the surface of the cake and does not fall off.
- Beat egg yolk with a tablespoon of water. Brush the surface of the cake with the egg yolk.
- Bake in preheated oven for 30-40 minutes.
