Apple Squares
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1 egg large
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup raw sugar
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 cups white whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 cups granny smith apples chopped, about 3 apples
- 1/4 cup raw sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl, beat apple sauce with the next four ingredients until smooth.
- Sift the flour together with the next three ingredients. Add to bowl and mix well.
- Fold in chopped apples.
- Pour and spread evenly into greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan.
- Combine the 1/4 cup of sugar with the 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle it over the batter.
- Bake for about 30 minutes and cut after allowing to cool in pan.
