Stained Glass Window Sugar Cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 Celsius.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the egg and vanilla and mix well.
  3. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to the butter mixture and mix slightly to combine.
  4. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes. Cut smaller shapes out of the middles also. If hanging the cookies, use a needle to poke a hole in the top edge of each cookie.
  6. Place onto a cookie sheet and place a few pieces of cut caramels into the smaller shapes.
  7. Bake for approximately 10 minutes until lightly browned on both sides. If hanging, let cool first.
