General Lee Bread
- 1 pkg. dry active yeast
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water
- 1 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 1/4 c. oil
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 c. plain flour
- Mix together the first 3 ingredients and let stand in a bowl for 5 minutes.
- Stir until sugar is dissolved and add 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water, oil, salt and sugar.
- Gradually add the plain flour to mixture.
- When you can no longer stir the dough with a spoon, turn onto a floured board.
- Grease your hands and begin to knead for about 10 minutes or until you have a smooth, round and very elastic ball of dough.
- Grease a large mixing bowl and place dough in the bowl.
- Cover with a damp cloth and let stand in a warm place for about 1 1/2 hours.
- Dough should double in bulk. Turn the dough onto floured board.
- Grease loaf pans and your hands.
- Divide the dough into 2 parts and place in loaf pans. Cover with damp cloth and put back in warm place for 1 hour or until dough has doubled in bulk.
