Sour Cream Cake Adapted From The Joy Of Cooking Cookbook
- 1 3/4 cups cake flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 3/4 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar sifted
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup sour cream cultured
- 2 egg whites
- 3/4 cup almonds or your favorite nut
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1 square Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups raisins chopped
- 1 cup sugar powered
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder.
- Cream butter until soft and gradually add sifted sugar and cream until light.
- Beat in eggs yolks and vanilla.
- Add the sifted flour mixture to the butter mixture and add the sour cream. Stir the batter until smooth.
- Whip until stiff but not dry the egg whites and fold them lightly into the batter.
- Bake in greased pans about 25 minutes.
- Simmer these ingredients 5 minutes. Stir constantly. Add the nuts and 1/2 tsp vanilla.
- Combine above ingredients in saucepan and stir until a thickened glaze forms. Drizzle over the cake .
