Spice Cookies
- 3/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 2/3 c. sifted powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- powdered sugar
- small pecan halves
- candied cherry halves
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- Cream butter.
- Gradually add 2/3 cup powdered sugar; beat at medium speed of an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
- Combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to butter mixture, beating until mixture forms a dough.
- Divide dough into 5 equal parts.
- Shape 1 part of dough into a 9-inch-long cylinder; roll in powdered sugar.
- Place shaped dough on an 11 x 4-inch strip of wax paper.
- Transfer wax paper with dough to a microwave-safe cookie sheet or a 12 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
- Press 9 pecan halves or cherry halves in a row on top of dough; flatten dough evenly.
