Pat Bittinger'S Applesauce Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 300u0b0.
  2. Grease a 9-inch tube pan. Cream the butter and sugar. Add eggs.
  3. Sift dry ingredients together.
  4. Add applesauce and Karo syrup to butter-sugar mixture.
  5. Dredge nuts and raisins with a little flour. Add flour mixture to butter-sugar. Add nuts and raisins.
  6. Bake for 1 1/2 hours. Do not open oven door during the first hour.
  7. Cake will double in size during baking and turn very dark.
  8. Let cake cool in pan.
  9. Invert when cool.
  10. Cake tastes better 2 or 3 days after baking.
