Moong Dal (Yellow Split Pea ) Kichidi
- 1/4 cup moong dal
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 4 ghee
- 1/4 cup spinach
- 1/2 cup potatoes
- 1/4 cup carrots
- green beans chopped few
- 3 cauliflower florets
- ginger finely chopped 1 table spoon
- 3 curry leaves
- green chilies according to taste
- 2 pinches turmeric
- salt according to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seed
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 pinches asafoetida
- pepper Balls few or 7 to 8
- 3 cashew nuts
- Rinse and wash the rice and moong dal and soak in 3 cup of water . Take a pressure cooker add ghee , add in the tempering , when sputters add ginger, chilies and curry leaves.
- Fry for a minutes or two then add in all the veggies and fry for five minutes.
- Now add rice , dal give it a good stir , then add in the water ( water used to soak the rice and dal ) . Toss in salt give a quick stir .
- Let the water start to boil , then close the lid of cooker and allow to cook until 3 whistles.
- Let the cooker cool for the pressure to escape , then open the lid give a good stir .
- Serve hot along with curd or raita or pickle or curries as mentioned above .
