Chop Suey
- 1 1/2 lb. pork (pork steaks or pork chops or pork tenderloin)
- 2 Tbsp. corn starch
- 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt or 1/4 tsp. monosodium glutamate (optional)
- 1/4 tsp. ginger
- 2 Tbsp. salad oil
- 2 c. thinly shredded Chinese cabbage (optional)
- 1 c. thinly sliced celery
- 1 bunch green onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 (16 oz.) can bean sprouts, drained
- 1 (6 or 8 1/2 oz.) can water chestnuts, drained and thinly sliced
- 1 (5 or 6 oz.) can bamboo shoots, drained and sliced
- 3 c. hot cooked rice
- About 45 minutes before serving:
- With sharp knife, slice pork into thin and bite-size pieces.
- In small bowl combine cornstarch, next 4 ingredients and 1/2 cup water; set aside.
