Mince Pies

  1. This is a traditional British dessert or snack eaten around Christmas and New Year's. Great with a cup of tea or a glass of wine! We have adapted it here to use ingredients widely available in the USA.
  2. Mix all the ingredients except the brandy and pie dough, and allow to marinate in a covered baking dish in a cool place for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. After marinating, give it a stir and re-cover with foil, then bake at 225u0b0F for 3 hours.
  4. Allow to cool, stirring periodically, and then stir in the brandy.
  5. Makes enough mincemeat to fill 6 dozen muffin-pan sized mini-pies. This requires about 1 kilo of pastry (700g flour, 300g butter, splash of cold water-easy!).
  6. Make these for a holiday party! (Or any party. I'm considering replacing my birthday cake with these this year!)
