Caramel Pie
- 1/2 c. sugar
- about 1/2 c. warm water
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 4 Tbsp. flour
- pinch of salt
- 2 c. milk
- 2 eggs
- vanilla
- 1/4 stick oleo
- baked pie crust
- egg whites
- 1/4 c. sugar
- Slowly brown 1/2 cup sugar in skillet.
- Do not stir while it's browning.
- When sugar is browned, pour about 1/2 cup warm water in and let sugar melt.
- Put 3/4 cup sugar, flour, pinch of salt and milk in bowl.
- Mix well and add eggs to melted sugar in skillet. Put egg yolks in cup and add some of the hot mixture before putting in skillet.
- Stir until thickened and add vanilla and oleo and pour in baked pie crust.
- Beat egg whites with 1/4 cup sugar for top of pie.
- Egg whites will beat better if you add a few grains of salt and pinch of baking powder.
