Boston Brown Bread

  1. In a small bowl, sift together flour, corn meal, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
  2. Stir in wheat flour.
  3. Combine egg, butter, molasses and buttermilk.
  4. Add to dry ingredients along with cheese and stir only to blend.
  5. Toss raisins with the 1 tablespoon flour; stir into batter.
  6. Pour batter into a 9 x 5 x 2 3/4-inch buttered loaf pan.
  7. Cover top of pan with double thickness of aluminum foil.
  8. Place in shallow baking pan. Surround loaf pan with water.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven of 350u0b0 for 2 hours.
  10. Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes.
  11. Serve warm with butter.
  12. Makes 1 loaf.
