Spicy Crinkles
- 3/4 cups Vegetable Shortening
- 1 cup Packed Golden Brown Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoons Ground Nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
- 1/4 teaspoons Ground Allspice
- 1/4 teaspoons Ground Cloves
- 1 whole Egg
- 1/4 cups Molasses
- 2-1/4 cups Flour
- Granulated Or Sanding Sugar, For Rolling Cookies
- This recipe makes approximately 60 cookies.
- Preheat oven to 375u0b0F.
- Beat shortening in a large bowl. Add brown sugar, soda, and spices, and beat until combined. Beat in egg and molasses until combined.
- Beat in flour (it will be very stiff).
- Shape dough into 1" balls. Roll in granulated or sanding sugar and place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until set and tops are crackled.
- This is a wonderful, chewy-in-the-center cookie (or you can make it crunchy by cooking it longer), and my very favorite. I love to seal these in cellophane bags and give them to family at Christmas, all tied up with pretty bows.
