Hungarian Baked Chicken
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 (3 lb.) chicken, cut up
- 1 small head cabbage, cut into 1/2-inch slices
- salt and pepper
- paprika
- 2 apples, cored and sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 Tbsp. grated lemon peel
- 2 tsp. caraway seed
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. (6 oz.) shredded Swiss cheese
- Melt butter in a large skillet with cover.
- Dust chicken with paprika.
- Brown chicken over medium heat.
- Place cabbage slices on bottom of a buttered 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Cover and bake in 375u0b0 oven until tender, about 25 minutes.
- Arrange apple and onion over cabbage.
- Sprinkle with lemon peel, sugar and caraway seed.
- Place chicken pieces on top and continue baking 30 minutes or until tender.
- Remove cover and sprinkle with cheese.
- Bake 5 minutes more until cheese is melted.
