Charlotte Brownies

  1. Combine butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, and mix well. Add chocolate syrup and mix well. Add vanilla. Add flour and salt and mix well. Add nuts, if desired.
  2. Reserve 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips for the frosting. Add remaining chips to the batter. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 25-30 minutes.
  3. To make the frosting, combine 1 1/3 cups sugar, 6 tablespoons of butter and 6 tablespoons of milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-low heat and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the reserved 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. Stir until chips are melted. Wait a couple of minutes until the frosting starts to slightly firm up, then spread over cooled brownies (frosting will harden up as it cools).
  4. Note: The frosting should go on the brownies once they're cool, but it will harden as it cools up, so do not start the frosting until after the brownies are cooled.
  5. Cut into small squares. These are very rich.
