Bonnie’S Best Biscuits
- 2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoons Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Buttermilk Powder
- 4 Tablespoons Shortening (kept Cold)
- 3/4 cups Milk
- 3 Tablespoons Butter
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. While oven is preheating, add the 3 tablespoons butter to an iron skillet and place in the oven.
- Measure out the flour and sift in the baking powder, salt, and the buttermilk powder. Cut in the cold shortening. I use my hands and rub it into the flour because that's how Grandma Bonnie did it. I swear it tastes better, too. Add the milk and stir with a wooden spoon just until combined. Turn out onto a floured cutting board and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut biscuits shapes out.
- Put the biscuits into the prepared pan, but as you put them in, turn them once to coat the tops with the browned butter. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
- Works great for sausage gravy!
- If you are in a hurry, you can add a bit more milk to make the dough soft enough to make drop biscuits.
