Cherry Cheese Danish
- FOR THE DOUGH:
- 1/2 cups Milk- Scalded
- 1/2 cups Water
- 1/3 cups Butter
- 1 whole Brown Egg
- 3-1/2 cups Flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/3 cups Sugar
- 1 package (2 1/4 Teaspoons) Yeast
- _____
- FOR THE FILLING:
- 16 ounces, weight Cream Cheese, Softened
- 2 whole Brown Egg Yolks
- 1/2 cups Sugar
- 6 Tablespoons Flour
- 2 teaspoons Lemon Juice
- 1 can (21 Oz. Can) Cherry Pie Filling
- _____
- FOR THE GLAZE:
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon To 2 Tablespoons Whole Milk
- Making the dough:
- 1. I use the dough cycle on my bread maker when making bread.
- 2. First you need to scald your milk. Put the milk into a small saucepan and turn on high. Once the milk starts to boil, remove from heat and let it cool.
- 3. Add milk, water and butter that has been cut into slices into the bread machine pan.
- 4. Beat egg in a bowl until frothy. Add to the bread machine pan.
- 5. Add flour, salt and sugar on top of the wet ingredients. Make a small divot in the flour and add the yeast last in the indentation.
- 6. Close the lid on your bread machine and set it on the dough cycle.
- 7. When dough cycle is complete, remove dough from the bread machine and put onto a lightly floured surface. Knead dough a few times and add a little flour so that it's not sticky.
- 8. Separate dough into three equal balls.
- 9. Roll one of your dough balls out with a lightly floured rolling pin.
- 10. Cut dough into 3-inch squares with a pizza cutter. Each ball should make nine squares.
- Making the filling:
- 1. Mix cream cheese in your mixer until creamy.
- 2. Add egg yolks, sugar, flour and lemon juice and mix until creamy.
- 3. Add a spoonful of filling to each of the dough squares.
- 4. Pinch two of the opposite corners together.
- 5. Then pinch the other two corners together to form a pouch. Roll the top of the pouch under one turn.
- 6. Get out some toothpicks and break them in half. Stick a toothpick though the top of your pouch where all four corners come together. Repeat this with the other two dough balls.
- 7. Put your Danish pastries into a large greased metal pan.
- 8. Cover with a pastry towel and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- 9. Spoon a tablespoon of cherry pie filling on the top of each Danish. Put in the oven and bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. Let cool for 15 minutes.
- Making the glaze:
- 1.Mix powdered sugar and milk together in a bowl. Add milk 1 teaspoon at a time until the glaze is creamy, but not runny.
- 2. Once Danish pastries are cool, drizzle the glaze over the top with a spoon. Add as much as you like. Put on a plate and enjoy!
