Pfeffernuss Drops
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. ground cardamon
- 1/4 c. candied orange rind, finely chopped
- 1 1/4 c. sifted confectioners sugar
- red and green candied cherries
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. anise seed, crushed
- 1/4 c. candied citron, finely chopped
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. milk
- Sift together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cloves and pepper.
- Stir in anise seed, cardamon, citron and orange rind until well mixed; set aside.
- Beat butter and 1 cup confectioners sugar until well mixed.
- Beat in egg.
- Add flour mixture just until blended.
- Chill overnight, or until firm enough to handle.
- Roll dough (about 1 teaspoon) at a time into small balls.
- Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
- Top each with a piece of candied cherry.
- Stir milk into remaining 1/4 cup confectioners sugar until smooth.
- Drizzle very lightly over top of each cookie.
- Bake in moderate oven at 350u0b0 for 8 minutes, or until very lightly browned.
- Remove from cookie sheets at once with spatula.
- Cool completely on wire rack.
