Savory Southwest Biscuits
- 3 cups Flour
- 2-1/2 Tablespoons Sugar
- 4-1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Cream Of Tartar
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 cups Shortening
- 1 whole Egg, Beaten
- 1 cup Milk
- 6 ounces, weight Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Shredded
- 1/4 cups Diced Green Chilies
- 4 strips Bacon, Cooked And Crumbled
- Preheat oven to 425u0b0F. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in shortening. Add egg and milk. Mix in cheese, chilies, and crumbled bacon.
- Turn out on floured surface and knead 10-15 times. Roll out 1/2-inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter. Place on greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
- Makes 20 biscuits
