Valerie'S Best Brownies

  1. Heat oven to 350u0b0.
  2. Grease rectangular pan (13 x 9 x 2-inch). In medium mixing bowl, combine cocoa and baking soda.
  3. Blend in 1/3 cup melted butter.
  4. Add boiling water; stir until mixture thickens.
  5. Stir in sugar, eggs and remaining 1/3 cup melted butter; stir until smooth.
  6. Add flour, vanilla and salt; blend completely.
  7. Stir in nuts, if desired, and chocolate chunks.
  8. Pour into prepared pan.
  9. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan.
  10. Cool completely in pan; cut into squares.
  11. Makes about 36 brownies.
