Turnip Au Gratin

  1. Bring about 1/2-inch water to boil in a pan.
  2. Add turnips, sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  3. Cover; cook until tender.
  4. Drain; remove and set aside.
  5. In saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons margarine. Blend in flour, pepper and remaining salt.
  6. Cook 1 minute.
  7. Remove and gradually stir in milk.
  8. Return to heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and thickens.
  9. Add cheese; stir until melted. Mix cheese sauce and turnips together.
  10. Put into baking dish. Melt remaining margarine; add bread crumbs. Sprinkle over turnips. Bake at 350u0b0 for 15 minutes or until crumbs are toasted.
